The two-time Olympic Games silver medallist Chong Wei said that he was feeling nervous and edgy but excited at the same time to finally be a father. “All I want is for them mother and child to be safe and healthy.
“This is my first child and naturally, all kinds of emotions are going through my mind. “I just can't wait to hold the child in my arms,” he said. Chong Wei, who skipped this weekend's Axiata Cup knockout round at Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium to be by his wife's side, said he had left the job of selecting the name of their child to Mew Choo. “She did all the hard work by going through so many names. “She came out with a few English names and I liked Kingston Lee.
“There is no particular meaning behind it but it sounded nice when I said it out aloud. “It is a belief that we should not reveal the Chinese name before the child is born. “So, I will leave that to Mew Choo,” he said. Despite leading a hectic life as a national badminton shuttler, Chong Wei said he would do his best to be part of his child's life as much as he could.
“My job is a full-time badminton player and Mew Choo knows the struggles that I go through and is very understanding. “Travelling is a major part of it and I am not around most of the time. “I will however make it a point to spend as much time as I can with my baby boy.” With his new boy being his inspiration, expect a determined Chong Wei to go all out in his bid to become the country's first world champion at the World Championships in Guangzhou in August.
