KUALA LUMPUR (May 5): Police are monitoring a social website Facebook (FB) account which was found to link the Royal Malaysia Police with the 'phantom' voters issue.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the allegation was slanderous.
"Police are monitoring a posting from the FB account...," he said at a media conference at the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, here today.
Ismail said the posting claimed that police were involved in bringing in 'phantom' voters.
He also warned certain parties trying to create chaos by spreading false news through the social website particularly on the purported existence of 'phantom' voters.
Ismail did not rule out the possibility that it was one of the tactics used by the 'group 505' who were said to be planning to stage an assembly at Putrajaya today or tomorrow.
He warned that police would take stern action on anyone joining the assembly.
In another development, the IGP also warned motorcyclists carrying party flags who deliberately circled a particular area.
"Such acts can create public anger," he said adding that everyone must be law-abiding so that national peace could be preserved.
